Online application — Class 1 & Balvatika
1

Visit the official KVS admission portal

Go to admission.kvs.gov.in — This is the ONLY official portal. Do not apply through any third-party website, app, or agent. The application is completely free.

2

Click "New Registration"

Read all instructions on the registration page carefully. Check the declaration checkbox and click "Proceed". Enter the child's name, date of birth, parent's name, valid mobile number, and email ID. An OTP will be sent to your mobile.

3

Fill the admission form

4

Select up to 3 KV schools

You can choose up to 3 Kendriya Vidyalaya schools in order of preference from the list provided on the portal. Applying to multiple schools greatly increases your chances.

You cannot submit more than one application for the same child at the same school. If you do, only the last submission is considered valid.
5

Upload required documents

Upload self-attested scanned copies of: child's birth certificate (mandatory), passport-size photo (mandatory), and other applicable documents based on your category.

File format: JPG or PDF. Each file must be under 100KB. Ensure scans are clear and readable. Incomplete or blurry uploads can lead to rejection during document verification at the school.
6

Preview carefully and submit

Click "Preview" to review all entered details. Use "Edit" to correct any mistakes. Once satisfied, click "Submit" — an OTP is sent to your mobile to authenticate the final submission.

7

You will also receive an SMS confirmation on your registered mobile. Save the confirmation message.

If selected, visit the KV school within the stipulated deadline (usually 3–5 working days from result date) with ALL original documents for verification.

⚠ Bring every document in original PLUS 2 self-attested photocopies. Admissions will be cancelled if documents are found to be false or incorrect — the Principal is directed to scrutinise all documents thoroughly.

Priority Categories Explained

KVS uses a strict priority system. Higher categories get seats first. Within each category, a lottery is used if applicants exceed available seats. Tap a category to expand.

Priority 1–4 are reserved for government sector employees. Priority 5 is open to all children — including those from private sector families — for remaining seats after higher categories are accommodated.
I
Service Category I
Transferable Central Govt employees with All-India transfer liability — highest priority
Who qualifies?
  • Defence personnel — Army, Navy, Air Force
  • Central Armed Police Forces (CRPF, BSF, CISF, ITBP, SSB)
  • IAS, IPS, IFS and other All-India Service officers
  • Central Govt employees with explicit All-India transfer clause in service rules
Document needed

Service certificate from your department/unit specifically mentioning All-India transfer liability. A generic employment letter without this mention may not qualify for Category I.

II
Service Category II
Transferable Central Govt employees without All-India transfer liability
Who qualifies?

Central Government employees who get transferred but only within a region or zone — not across the entire country. Most non-gazetted Central Govt employees fall here.

III
Service Category III
Non-transferable Central Govt employees & retired pensioners
Who qualifies?
  • Fixed-post Central Govt employees who do not transfer
  • Retired Central Government pensioners
  • Ex-servicemen drawing a Central Govt pension
Documents needed

Current employees: Office ID card / appointment letter confirming Central Govt employment.

Pensioners / Ex-servicemen: Pension Payment Order (PPO) issued by the Central Government.

Frequently Asked Questions

Real questions parents ask every admission season — answered clearly and completely.

The last date for online registration for Class 1 and Balvatika is April 2, 2026. The portal closes at end of day. No extension is typically given by KVS. Apply at least 2–3 days early — the portal experiences very heavy traffic on the last day and often becomes slow or temporarily unavailable.
After the registration window closes, each KV school conducts a computerised draw of lots. The lottery is broadcast live on the school's YouTube channel — all registered parents can watch. Tokens representing each applicant (within their priority category) are drawn one by one. This produces a selection list and a waitlist. There is no entrance exam for Class 1 — selection is purely by lottery within priority categories.
Yes — you can apply to up to 3 KV schools per child through the same portal in a single application. Applying to multiple schools significantly improves your chances. You cannot submit more than one separate application for the same child at the same school — if multiple are submitted, only the last one is valid.
If selected candidates don't complete admission formalities within the given timeframe, waitlisted candidates are called in order. KVS typically releases 2nd and 3rd selection lists in April–May if seats remain vacant. Keep checking the school's notice board regularly — no separate individual notification is sent to waitlisted candidates. You must check yourself.
No — the KVS application process is completely free. There is no registration, processing, or application fee. Be extremely wary of any website, agent, or individual that asks for payment to "apply for KV admission" or "guarantee a seat" — this is fraudulent. Report such fraud to KVS authorities immediately.
Results for Balvatika (April 8) and Class 1 (April 9, 2026) can be checked through: (1) Login to admission.kvs.gov.in using your Application/Registration Number; (2) The individual school's official website; (3) School notice board; (4) SMS to your registered mobile number. All four channels are simultaneously updated.
Balvatika is a pre-primary programme (equivalent to Nursery/LKG/UKG) introduced by KVS under the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 for children aged 3–6 years. It has 3 levels: Balvatika 1 (age 3–4), Balvatika 2 (4–5), Balvatika 3 (5–6). Class 1 is the first year of formal primary education for children aged 6–8 years. Balvatika is currently available only in select KV schools — not all KVs have it. Both have separate application processes and lottery dates.
Check your appointment letter or service rules. Category I: Your service rules explicitly mention All-India transfer liability (common for IAS/IPS/Defence/CAPF). Category II: You are transferred but only within a region/zone. Category III: You are in a fixed post and do not transfer, or you are a pensioner. If in doubt, ask your HR/Admin department to issue a service certificate clearly mentioning the nature of transfer liability — the school will assess your category based on this certificate.
From 2026–27, KVS has implemented a progressive cap of 40 students per section for Classes I, II, and III. This cap will extend to Class IV from 2027–28. This means: 10 RTE seats + 6 SC seats + 3 ST seats + 11 OBC-NCL seats + remaining general seats = 40 total per section.
