How to Apply — Step by Step
Complete guide for Class 1 and Balvatika online application on admission.kvs.gov.in. Read all instructions before starting.
Visit the official KVS admission portal
Go to admission.kvs.gov.in — This is the ONLY official portal. Do not apply through any third-party website, app, or agent. The application is completely free.
Click "New Registration"
Read all instructions on the registration page carefully. Check the declaration checkbox and click "Proceed". Enter the child's name, date of birth, parent's name, valid mobile number, and email ID. An OTP will be sent to your mobile.
Fill the admission form
Enter all details accurately: child's personal information, parents' details, service category, and residential address.
Select up to 3 KV schools
You can choose up to 3 Kendriya Vidyalaya schools in order of preference from the list provided on the portal. Applying to multiple schools greatly increases your chances.
Upload required documents
Upload self-attested scanned copies of: child's birth certificate (mandatory), passport-size photo (mandatory), and other applicable documents based on your category.
Preview carefully and submit
Click "Preview" to review all entered details. Use "Edit" to correct any mistakes. Once satisfied, click "Submit" — an OTP is sent to your mobile to authenticate the final submission.
Save your Application Number
Note down or screenshot the Application Submission Code / Application Number displayed after successful submission. This is required to check your lottery result on April 8/9, 2026.
Check your result
Log in to admission.kvs.gov.in with your Application Number. Also check the school's website and notice board. SMS will be sent to registered mobile.
Visit school with original documents
If selected, visit the KV school within the stipulated deadline (usually 3–5 working days from result date) with ALL original documents for verification.
Pay admission fee
Pay the prescribed fee at the school to confirm and secure the seat. The seat is NOT confirmed until the fee is paid. RTE/EWS category students are fully exempt from all fees.
- Visit the respective KV school between April 2–8, 2026 during school hours
- Collect the offline admission form from the school office (free of charge)
- Fill the form carefully with all required details of the child and parent
- Attach self-attested photocopies of all required documents along with originals for verification
- Submit the completed form at the school before the closing date
- Check school notice board for the selection list on April 13, 2026
- If selected, complete admission formalities and pay fee within the given deadline
Document Checklist

- Transfer Certificate (TC) — from the previous school, in original
- Previous year's Report Card / Mark Sheet — showing promotion to next class
- School leaving certificate from last attended school
- For Class 9: Class 8 passing/promotion certificate from a recognised CBSE/State Board school
- For Class 11: Class 10 marksheet from CBSE or recognised board
Priority Categories Explained
KVS uses a strict priority system. Higher categories get seats first. Within each category, a lottery is used if applicants exceed available seats. Tap a category to expand.
Who qualifies?
- Defence personnel — Army, Navy, Air Force
- Central Armed Police Forces (CRPF, BSF, CISF, ITBP, SSB)
- IAS, IPS, IFS and other All-India Service officers
- Central Govt employees with explicit All-India transfer clause in service rules
Document needed
Service certificate from your department/unit specifically mentioning All-India transfer liability. A generic employment letter without this mention may not qualify for Category I.
Who qualifies?
Central Government employees who get transferred but only within a region or zone — not across the entire country. Most non-gazetted Central Govt employees fall here.
Document needed
Service certificate from your office confirming Central Govt employment. Should mention your designation and nature of post (transferable, within region).
Who qualifies?
- Fixed-post Central Govt employees who do not transfer
- Retired Central Government pensioners
- Ex-servicemen drawing a Central Govt pension
Documents needed
Current employees: Office ID card / appointment letter confirming Central Govt employment.
Pensioners / Ex-servicemen: Pension Payment Order (PPO) issued by the Central Government.
Category IV
Children of employees of: Govt of India autonomous bodies, PSUs (public sector undertakings), central higher educational institutions (IITs, IISc, Central Universities), and transferable state government employees.
Category V — General (open to all)
Open to all children regardless of parent's employment. Seats allocated after Categories I–IV are accommodated. Includes private sector employees, self-employed, etc.
RTE / EWS seats (25% of all seats)
10 out of 40 seats per section are reserved for economically weaker sections under the Right to Education (RTE) Act 2009. Completely free education — no fees charged whatsoever.

A separate quota for single girl children (with no siblings) applies from Class 6 onwards. This is in addition to the regular category seats.
KVs sponsored by PSUs or institutions (IITs, IISc, DRDO etc.) follow a modified priority where children of the sponsoring organisation get Priority I.
Age & Eligibility Criteria
Age is calculated as on March 31, 2026 for the 2026–27 session. A child born on April 1 is also considered eligible for that year's age bracket.

- Child must be an Indian citizen. Children of foreign nationals residing in India are also eligible.
- Child must meet the age criteria for the class being applied for (as on March 31, 2026).
- For Class 11: Admission only in the same year as passing Class 10. No break in continuous study permitted.
- For Class 12: No fresh admissions — only existing KV students continuing from Class 11.
- No entrance exam for Classes 1–8. Class 9 requires a written entrance test (100 marks, 3 hours).
- Class 11 admission is merit-based — stream allocated based on Class 10 board marks and seat availability.
- Admission on the basis of incorrect or false information will be cancelled immediately at any stage.
- Maximum section strength: 40 students per section for Classes I, II, III from 2026–27 onwards (progressive cap extending to Class IV from 2027–28).
